Had an idea and a little extra time before heading to bed last night—figured I’d throw together a little typographic illustration while I was still up and feeling the design vibe!
A quick and fun type treatment based on the classic “you say tomayto, I say tomahto,” example of different dialects and pronunciations based on geographical location. I started out without worrying about making it too immediately legible; as I got into it, that began to seem more and more fitting, further emphasizing the concept of a language barrier within the one language itself.
One of the somewhat refreshing aspects of working on a design or illustration for purely personal means—the ability to focus on form entirely independent of function (not something I believe should ever be encouraged within design, but I find giving myself less orthodox challenges helps to keep me on my toes)!
