I was shocked and somewhat speechless when I heard the news—that last night, on Monday 21st of June, comedian Chris Sievey, aka Frank Sidebottom, passed away. I couldn’t help but be moved to make my own, small tribute to the man, who never failed to make me laugh…
This was largely inspired by the movement to get Frank’s World Cup Song to number one—hence the theme and message in the illustration. The movement itself is currently being focused through the two Twitter accounts, @GetFrankToNo1 & @MakeFrank1.
Personally, I really hope the campaign is a success; not just to honour the memory of a great man, but so that we finally have a World Cup song that’s worth singing along to—one that makes you want to smile no matter what, the same way that all of Frank Sidebottom’s songs do.

The side is dead! I am gutted, but his absolute legend lives on.
The funniest entertainer without ever swearing. I remember having my photo took with him, I said “smile Frank!” he replied “I am blooming’ smiling!” CLASS, great sense of humour.
I will miss you, Frank! Give God a laugh or two for me.
