Front book cover design for PR 4.0, a guide to utilizing social media to help optimize business publicity, by Edrea Davis. Currently scheduled for release in September 2011.

The links of the chain were intended to represent social connectivity and interaction, while the focal blue link conveys the notion of still standing out in the crowd.
I also chose to use the visual of a chain to communicate this, as it symbolizes both strength and reliability, as well as being evocative of hyperlinks used on the web.
Client feedback:
“Chis is very professional and creative. I had developed a concept that he captured very well. However, he is so creative, he was able to come up with a better concept that I love. I have worked in the media for over 20 years and can say from experience that Chris is uniquely talented.”

So yeah, this week’s punchline may be a little subtler than usual, but it’s there!
I was originally intending this idea to be executed through live-action film, since the punchline was entirely visual, though the only potential outlet for that was Foone & Bumblescotch, and even then there wasn’t anywhere it could really go; I figured instead that I’d try to do it as a comic.
Not sure how well I managed in that regard.
I’ve been reading a bit of Scott Pilgrim in my spare time (and have been loving every page of it), and — since this week’s comic sits somewhat outside of what can loosely be construed as the general continuity of the strip (ie. mine and Cameron’s shenanegans) — I decided to play around with a similar style. Call it my impetuous and amateurish homage to Bryan Lee O’Malley’s art style!

Another quickie with just me! I’m so lonely in these comics these days…
Anyway it’s time for me to go find something to eat. Because goddamn.
